RBI New Guidelines 2025 : The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued another update about the ₹500 banknote, putting citizens and financial institutions in a tizzy. There is now uncertainty and misconception on social media about the possible withdrawal or redesign of the ₹500 note, and so the bank has tried to clarify the matter and lay down some important guidelines every Indian ought to know.
No Withdrawal Of ₹500 Notes, Confirms RBI
Defying viral WhatsApp messages and misleading social media posts, the RBI has stated clearly that the ₹500 note still remains valid legal tender and that there is no plan to withdraw the same from circulation. As far as the press statement from the central bank is concerned, “The ₹500 banknotes issued post demonetisation in 2016 are fully valid and continue to be accepted in all financial transactions.”

New Security Features To Tackle Counterfeiting
As a part of the currency management mechanism, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to enhance the security features in ₹500 notes to curb counterfeiting and strengthen trust in physical currency. New series of ₹500 denominations that will be printed shall bear the following features:
- Enhanced color-shifting security threads
- Micro lettering with clearer identification
- Enhanced watermark visibility under UV light
- Slight aesthetic tweaks for the layman to be able to authenticate it
