Bima Sakhi Scheme 2025 : In a groundbreaking step for enabling women towards financial security, the Government of India has announced the Bima Sakhi Scheme 2025, a special insurance scheme exclusively meant for women. The scheme offers insurance of the sum assured up to Rs. 2.16 lakh and aims to provide both life and accident-cum-disability protection at a very low premium or at no premium at all. Since the registration window closes on August 15, 2025, all eligible women must register at the earliest to avail of the benefits of the scheme.

What Is The Bima Sakhi Scheme?

The Bima Sakhi Yojana is an insurance scheme backed by the Government aimed at financial inclusion and safety of women, particularly in the lower-income strata and rural areas. The scheme covers life insurance of Rs.1 lakh and accidental insurance of Rs.1.16 lakh, i.e., a sum of Rs.2.16 lakh coverage per beneficiary. Through this scheme, women get covered against uncertain life events and are, along with it, empowered to learn about and utilize insurance products.

Key Benefits Of The Scheme

  • ₹2.16 Lakh Total Insurance: Willing to offer combined life insurance and accident insurance, offering holistic protection.
  • Zero to Minimal Premium: For many women who are eligible under this scheme, the premium is fully subsidized, or offered at an extremely meager rate.
  • Making the Women Financially Empowered: The Bima Sakhis, who are trained local women volunteers, assist the applicants in understanding insurance benefits and how to avail of them.
  • Easy Claim Mechanism: Under this scheme, LIC and other concerned insurers will carry out simple documentation and claim settlement activities.
  • Nationwide Reach: Going to all States and Union Territories with special focus on rural and semi-urban areas.

Who Is Eligible For Application?

  • Women between the ages of 18 and 59.
  • Priority to women belonging to Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and low-income households.
  • Should be holding a valid Aadhaar card and must have Jan Dhan bank account.
  • Preference will be given for women who are not having any insurance scheme at present.

Enrollment could be simple at local banks or Common Service Centres (CSCs) and could also be done by LIC agents trained under the program.

Why You Should Apply Before August 15, 2025

The application deadline is August 15, 2025, and interest in this scheme is growing across the country. As the awareness widens, limited slots might be available in certain regions; thus it is strongly urged for the eligible women to register at the earliest to avoid losing out on this life-elevating opportunity. This scheme ensures that a woman’s future is secured, while also supporting the greater government objective of “Insurance for All” by 2047. With inflation and rising medical costs, a gross insured amount of ₹2.16 lakh can serve as a crucial set-aside for any household during distress.
